| DUE TO THE LOW AMOUNT OF REPAIR WORK REQUESTS DURING JULY, AUGUST & SEPTEMBER each year I've been doing this, repair work will generally have a 4+ week turn around.. Realistically, I can not reasonably disrupt other projects in this economy, just to do a few hours worth of work on a watch that has probably been broken for years, while conditions are proper for other major projects of importance to me - I own some other property, rental and farm.. When it rains, I do watch work; when it is crazy hot, I do watch work; in the fall & winter I do LOTS of watch work and try to upgrade my various web sites. We stock a lot of NEW and vintage parts - from bands and cases to internal parts for the electronic module that runs your watch. I am constantly trying to source additional parts, case gaskets or whatever to keep your watches working.
All repair work starts with a $25 non-refundable examination/bench fee, plus return shipping when the time comes. PLEASE DO NOT send payments with your watch. A few watches have a higher bench fee: Calculators are $40, Synchronars are $50(messy!). We don't mark up our shipping costs, other than rounding to the next dollar....typically $6.00 within the USA.
GLASS & PLASTIC CRYSTALS Plastic crystal resurfacing/polishing - $10(US). Glass crystal polishing - $30+...more if a lot of scratches. In some cases I cannot do much with a particular crystal, due to glass type, mounting, shape or depth of scratches. Refilling/repainting of etched/depressed type logos - 18k or silver, FREE with any polishing job. Scratches deep enough to "catch" your fingernail" may not be able to be removed completely from crystals. Possible damage to a logo is also sometimes a consideration that limits the work that can be done. Modules are always removed from watches prior to the polishing process as the process could be harmful to the electronics. Glass may break during the polishing process - www.retroleds and/or Ed Cantarella take no responsibility and assume no liability for replacement in those cases. Quartz oscillator crystal replacement - $35 No charge other than exam fee($20) if it does not work. Reed switch replacement (Pulsar)- $35 each. We need your particular case to install the correct reed switch, as some button magnets have had a substantial loss of magnetism which must be compensated for. We attempt to "recharge" all buttons back to factory specification before reed switch selection; however, some magnets used have a composition that resists the recharging process. We stock 5 different strength reed switches to cover the 4 types used by Pulsar originally, and to accommodate weak magnet situations.
Wire bond repair - $40/hr. Figure one hour per wire bond. I use a combination of a 2 axis machine head, a binocular microscope and some custom tools. There are no guarantees on wire bond work success, but I have had some spectacular successes - no success, no charge. Around 40% success I'd say...repairing wires 1/3 the thickness of a human hair, made out of pure lead in most cases....an inexact science at best. ALL WIRE BONDS are permanently sealed after the work is completed - further repairs are not possible, but future damages is a virtual impossibility too. We use a high quality, non-shrinking sealant....don't let someone seal your wire bonds with nail polish or some other such solvent based product that will shrink and potentially damage wire bonds or the circuit board. Case work, customizing, and other such by mutual agreement after discussion. Conditions of Repair Work Due to considerable age, all vintage watches and other items are repaired without warrantee of continued function. Due to considerable age, inconsistencies in the materials and hidden damage or defects, vintage watches may break and/or have their case, glass, band or finishes irreparably damaged during the examination or repair process. Purchaser will have no legal or monetary recourse against RetroLeds. com, Ed Cantarella or Shimmering Image Productions, Inc., should such damage occur. Shipping Insurance is always paid by the purchaser. Michigan residents pay 6% sales tax. Items will not be combined in their shipping to countries other than the USA, due to customs workers opening and stealing part of the orders...apparently they are hesitant to leave a box totally empty. Any and all legal claims regarding transactions with Ed Cantarella, RetroLeds.com or Shimmering Image Productions, Inc. must be brought against Shimmering Image Productions, Inc. exclusively, in the Circuit Court of the County of Oakland, State of Michigan. All items are shipped in brand new 275 lb. test boxes padded out with clean packing materials - non-smoking environment here; Items are not returned until payment has cleared. Items not paid for in over 60 days are forfeited and become property of Shimmering Image Productions, Inc. Any and all legal claims regarding transactions with Ed Cantarella, RetroLeds.com or Shimmering Image Productions, Inc. must be brought against Shimmering Image Productions, Inc. only, exclusively in the Circuit Court of the County of Oakland, State of Michigan, regardless of other legal venues that could apply. Repair work will not be accepted without the repair form below being completed. It serves as an electronic acknowledgement of our terms of repair.
We look forward to doing business with you.
